New Year's 2015 Resolution

My one word resolution for 2015 .....



Contentment.

I thought about "balance" or "joy", but contentment seemed to be the best fit.  Contentment in the little things in life, the BIG THINGS, and just myself - that life isn't a competition of trying to be-like-everybody-else and do-what-everyone-else-is-doing.  It's what Paul writes in Philippians 4 ..

I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.  I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty.  I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.  I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.
Philippians 4:11-13, NIV

While I will work on some other things - staying on top of grading, lesson planning, working out, and finding all that balance - my goal is just. be. content.. with myself.  Don't get down on myself for something I didn't do/haven't done/can't do - I can't beat myself up.  God's mercy is new every morning. (Lamentations 3:22-23)

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.  And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.  For the joy set before Him He endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

You are right, it is so easy to get down about things (or about oneself)! Being content is a great word for 2015!
